he 2007 Legends of the Village gala on Monday, November 12th celebrating Village Care of New York’s 30th anniversary was another successful gathering of friends of the organization. Held this year at New York University's Kimmel Center, Legends helps raise funds for Village Care's SeniorChoices programs.

More than 300 supporters got together to mingle, dance and honor this year's awardees. Receiving the distinguished Lenore Zola Award was former Chairman of the Board from 1996-2007 and current Board Member, Charles B. Persell. Musical legend, Daphne Rubin-Vega received the William F. Passannante Award for contributions to the world of entertainment. Rubin-Vega also surprised the audience with an impromptu performance of the song Rainbow Connection.

Tony Award-Winning Actress, LaChanze, was the featured performer and blew everyone away with her beautiful and powerful voice. Angel & The Love Notes continued the music throughout the evening to the delight of guests. Among the many supporters who attended this year's event were Assemblymember Deborah Glick, Brad Hoylman of Community Board 2, Sam Burneson and Rita Lee. The annual gala also features the release of Village Care's annual Legends of the Village Calendar, which features individuals - the well known and those who have made contributions to society out of the spotlight - with a connection to Greenwich Village and its spirit of creativity and service. Among current and past calendar "legends" who attended this year's event were Madeline Lee Gilford, Joanne Beretta, Anthony Heilbut, Dr. Charles Vialotti, Elizabeth Kendall, Margo Jefferson and Art D'Lugoff.
